Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
The painter-ly quality of this piece is fantastic. By far the most expressive of all of the self-portraits. The fact that it is so dark, yet so warm really appeals to me.
This is an awesome piece. Very interesting rendering style. I love the analogous colors scheme. Maybe define more of the non-face aspects of the piece.
Good job of bringing in texture and depth with only minimal color and tone variance. Head looks too round. Focus on proportions and shape, especially with the detailed and important focus areas, then play loosely with background ephemerality to really make the face pop out at the viewer.
Very expressive and stylized Nice warm tones To my eye, the background appears to be a forest Face looks a tad squished Great texture and layers of paint
More than a little crazy. With this scheme and this brush style, personally I like to see more accuracy in the rendering--with a hard line here and there. Most odd is the fact that with all the wildness of the paint, the face itself is almost expressionless.
Like what others have said, this is probably the most expressive self portrait in the class. You've achieved a nice impasto effect with your brush work and the warm colors help the portrait emerge from the dark back drop. The portrait feels almost 'ominous' but 'warming' at the same time. Cool!
This is a very nice photograph of your piece but in person I lost a lot of the figure in the color choice used. I think adding more highlights or using less paint would have made it easier to render details in the face. This type of painting has a nice stylistic choice and brings your personality to the forefront, even though certain details get lost.
Your have really expressive brushstrokes, which gives the piece a lot of character. The piece could use a bit more highlights but overall a lovely composition
Her work stood out from the others. Her style is defined by the abstract feel, this is organic. I enjoy the texture she added with the brush strokes that were created with the oil paints. The painting was dark and this made it memorable.
Very original. Tells a story more than any other piece here. Feels like underground, in a cave, firelight. If you're still searching for a style - this could be it. I didn't see it close up before now; it's quite beautiful.

ReplyDeleteI really liked your choice to use a warm color pallet, I also enjoyed the mark-making using a pallet knife and the texture of your surface.

ReplyDeleteGood use of monochromatic color. I like the offset composition and your use of texture in this is great.

ReplyDeleteI really like the mix of colors. More highlights would be helpful. I love the texture that can be seen.

ReplyDeleteMonochromatic red offers balance. Value blending really well.
