Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
I LOVE THIS! The colorful bubbles paired with the stark black & white is really effective. The angle lends a lot to the composition, and I love that the drawing board is floating in space - brilliant.
I loved your method for this piece! The use of colored bubbles and charcoal was creative and balanced with blasts of color and the simple black contours. Nice job!
Do you think it would have been stronger if you had selectively masked off some of the paper before applying the background? Creative use of color. What was the meaning behind having the mirror above eye level, are you intentionally commenting on the gaze of the observer? We're so used to drawings of the dominating gaze downward, but usually the subject isnt looking back and drawing.
I really like the illustrative rendering style. The lines, marks, and composition are very effective. I would like to see some bubble variation within the figure though.
reads as fabric to me which is an interesting quality. Very successful piece overall I like the strange angle that you chose and the contrast of achromatic figure and color splatters.
Beautiful color-works nicely with dark contour lines Great proportions and body position I like what appears to be a downward looking angle on the figure
The use of an unorthodox medium gains points. As admitted, some areas here work better than others: from the floating drawing pad to the shoulder is quite charming; in other sections a bit less randomness would be preferred.
Observing your drawings in class and comparing it to now really shows how much you've improved (in proportions especially). The bubbly effect helps bring dimension to the form of your figure and I see it working best on your left leg. Good job!
I really like the colors used for this piece but I lose the figure, as well as a space that the figure is in. I think it would help if you added some sort of marking to create a space for the chair and drawing board to live in it would help.
Your drawings have improved and you can see that in you proportions especially in this piece. I also liked your take on color , it represents you in some way. I really enjoyed this piece great job!
I love the choice of colors and the spatter of the paint on the page. I am not sure about the proportions, the actual figure seems doesn't sit comfortably even though her gaze to the left looking out as she is drawing works; and it is unusual, but not unlike work by other artists,
The top-down view is very interesting. There is a sense that the image is floating, since the same colored dots were used in the background and on the image. Maybe a horizontal line across the bottom in indicate a floor surface. Fun portrait!

ReplyDeleteI really like the background. It really does look like you. Proportions look good and the composition is very nice as well.

ReplyDeleteNice strong lines. Great cartoon style, totally recognizable. Perfect perspective and a cool high angle. I think it's very successful.
