Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
Nice experimentation with color, I liked the play between warm and cool colors on and around the face. The streaks of red in the hair really complemented her green eyes.
Interesting placement choice. A smoother gradation from the subject out to the background color would help keep the head from sticking to it, and make it roll out. Yellow border began that process, but the hair tips are very hard edges for what are whisps in reality.
Nice use of color, love the contrast of background to figure, and layout. Some of the darks in your hair read as unfinished. Nice rendering of facial features and musculature.
Looks a lot like you Great color-pastels have a calming effect Blue space is reminiscent of the sky Nice positioning on page-evokes a greater response from viewer
Immediately recognizable--due to success in rendering most important features: the high eyebrows, the nose. Though the empty space mostly complements the central image, at least a suggestion of the rest of the bust would succeed more than simply the head disembodied.
I like the composition. The strong lines around the hair and neck make it look too cartoon like and not so lifelike. It really looks like you and is beautifully done.
At first glance, I immediately recognized this person and because of that, your capturing of likeness is successful. I'm particularly drawn to the blended areas of the neck and nose as it makes a nice textural contrast to the way you approached rendering your hair. You bring an interesting graphic quality with the harsh contour line following the shape of your head. :D
This is an interesting composition and I'm not sure I'm a fan of it because with the use of colors and the head not grounded to an object, it looks like a psychedelic floating head. I do, however like the contour lines used to separate to head from the background.
Compositionally for me its kind of strange, with all of the negative space and the head is not grounded to anything. The colors are lovely and you have done a good job at capturing your likeness. Nice job.
Nice colors. Good likeness. The lips could be a little less outlined. Great job on the hair. The eyebrows are beautifully shadowed in, very interesting.
The composition is nice - gives a very ethereal feel. Is the dark line around your lips really present?

ReplyDeleteNice colors. Interesting composition. The head looks detached and floating because there are no shoulders or collar bone.
