Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
Master Great transition from color to black and white Grey tones are very nice, although I thought that the rocks on the right could have been darker Figure Extremely expressive Successful style match Background is beautifully composed and parallel to master, making works appear as a series
Very illustrative quality in both the study and your own piece. A mix of contour lines with the mid-tone wash with the ink/gouache seems to be working for you. I would have to say that perhaps adding in some darker values just like your master study and things would read a bit easier in your own image. The composition works, just having some more slight variation in values would help things read more clearly.
I really like Kazel’s work. Wendy chose a remarkable artist to study and her own work stands up to the professional art. Both drawings stand in harmony and the background in Wendy’s piece is a wonderful addition that makes the drawing more impactful.
I like your drawing way better than the masters! It reminds me of some contemporary Native American art that I have seen! The replication of the Master's piece looks identical to the original and your Master's copy is even more successful in style and composition. One of my favorites for sure!
Gread job taking the artists mixed media and multilayered canvas surface and reducing it into a two dimensional plane. I know this assignment specifically stated that the background wasn't significant to the piece, but with an original like this the canvas is as much a character as the actual figure. Very creative original. You could seriously take that style of whimsicality and just run with it. It's the kind of quick giggle easy laugh art you find in childrens books, kid's school supplies and in particular there are stores like Archie Bunkers or Fireworks who sell nothing but that type of thing.
I love the concept and mark making in your study more so than the master’s piece you did. It is very whimsical, fun and captures the viewer’s eyes into the figures.
"Skidmarks" If indeed the original is such, here is an example where it has beaten the master at her own game. Where the masterwork is quite limited in its content and graphical interest, the second image is infinitely more appealing in terms of characterization and storytelling.

ReplyDeleteYour master copy is done really well. The study is done in a similar whimsical way. Both backgrounds are really nice.

ReplyDeleteYour study work is like an actual replication of Mel's own work. Just excellent overall.

Beautiful interpretation on your second piece, I prefer it to your Master study. Great job
