Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
I like the composition. The pillows and blanket look great. Nice depth to the couch as well. The proportions look pretty good but the body looks to be on top of the couch instead of sitting into the couch and pillows. The alignment of the body is very nicely done. It shows the weight distribution well. The colors in the body are nice but the use of darks would help shape the body. Overall, your painting is very nice; I really like it.
This is a wonderful piece and I like the choice of the cropping of the figure. However, I do think the white splotches in the top left corner of the background are too stark and distracting. Nothing in your figure or fabric gets that white.
I love the texture and mark quality of the palette knife. The colors in the figure seem a bit basic and arbitrary with the blues and reds... Making the figure look flat or illustrative.
I like that you carried the bright colors of background into the body, but would have liked if you had blended them into the skin more, they read as reflections. Nice composition. Proportions of her left leg and arm are a little off, and she dosnt seem to be sitting on the couch. Overall very nice work.
Awesome job Dani! Your use of the palette knife really gives the impasto effect and I really enjoy that. It seems as if you were able to capture the textures of each material in the piece successfully—especially on the red blanket. Two things I would tweak would be elongating the torso slightly which would result in you having to also elongate her arms just slightly. Other than that, everything is working out great. Nice balance of warm and cool tones as well
The shading on the body is a little bright, and the right leg is a little too big. The couch's mute or softer coloring works greatly to add to the model, in presence. Your body looks a little squished, but overall I think the composition of the body works out great.
I'm especially captivated by the pillows and furniture and also the shapes of the limbs of the body. The face seems a little old for her face and am not sure about the white spots in the background, which makes it a little unbalanced in the composition. But overall, it is really beautiful to look at and a successful composition.
The composition is very effective in the way that you balanced the figure with the background/couch. Rendering the figure in cool colors adjacent to the red pillow really makes those warm undertones in the skin to pop! I also noticed that you captured the shift in her weight (to her left), something that I find difficult to do! Lovely job!
The loose painterly strokes are nice and consistent all throughout the piece, but because there is so much color in the background she is unique and distinct from the couch. The figure is very well shadowed using the blues as shade and the orange pink as highlights. Regarding proportions within the figure, I find starting with large color blocks, then breaking them down smaller and smalller untill they blend into a smooth gradation is a helpful technique.

I like the background texture more without the short white strokes. It's very nice; I wish I could do something like it. Stomach needs to be longer, but otherwise the proportions are excellent. Very nice use of shaded plains on the body and couch.
The tightness of the framing actually works--even if it could use maybe half an inch on either edge. The figure has real presence and personality. I don't know what the white daubs are about but, seen in miniature, it looks like a shower of goose feathers...which if gone with, and even carried into the foreground, would be very bizarre and, possibly, cool.

Decision to make L pillow blue makes the blues in the figure and the background stand out- also makes the composition more vibrant and appealing
