Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
I loved the decorative lines in this piece and you carried them into your second piece very successfully. I liked that I could see your voice in it as well. I would have liked to see some tonal variation.
A fun piece and an interesting use of mark making to denote shadows. You seem to have adopted that stylized mark-making along with the decorative elements from the original into your own work. My only crit is that the head in your own piece seems to be out of slight proportion to the rest of her body—smaller. Try stepping back and analyze the head size compared to the torso and legs.
Your master study is rendered very nicely. The use of hatching for shadow is great. The study is very done very well but the shadows are much looser in the study.
Both pieces are successful in the translation of style as well composition. I even like the mark making you used for shadows in your Master study better than the ones in your Master copy. Great job on rendering the faces and capturing the essence of the Master you chose!
The face in your master appropriation could be closer to a midtone rather than the stark white otherwise the contour lines work really well with your study.
I think that your master study could have used a little more rendering and a lightening on the marking on her stomach because i felt like they became distracting form the whole piece. I would have liked to see a different position for your model so that it would have been different from the Maser study but overall nice job.
