LONG-POSE FIGURE STUDY

  1. I love the shadows. I would like to see more highlights. The feet seem a little too thick. The hair looks awesome. I really like how you can make out the individual strands. The highlights in the eyes are also very nice.

  2. The figure's colors are nicely blended and the shape is very clean

The use of only primary colors in the background and furniture gives the composition an appealing quality

A wide range of tonality makes the figures highlights and shadows extremely effective

Less dimension in the background and fabric makes the figure the main focal point in this piece

  3. Nicely stylized illustrative figure. As mentioned in during the critique, I think the legs are off compared to the upper part of the her body. The legs look shortened. The rendering of the fabric and is nice compared to the blocky yet smooth rendering style of the figure. However, the grayish tan fabric color looks odd compared to the rest of the colors in the painting.

    Well done and nice composition.

  4. Nice use of analogous color. Proportions of face are off, nose should be larger, and mouth should be moved up. I like the choice to flatten your figure and I think that the texture of your canvas actually excentuated this. It was however distracting in some places, because the texture doesn’t look intentional. It would be interesting if you created your own texture in the same context of the figure, then proceeded to paint in this very flat smooth manner over the top of it.

  5. You rendered the forms of the body successfully. The figure however looks slightly forced to fit the canvas and therefore the proportions on her legs suffered a bit. If you were to fix this, I’d say to just elongate the legs slightly. Everything else is working well and the textural issue of the canvas actually adds a lot more to the image!

  6. Nice flesh and shading. Good pallet choice. Rendered the figure well.

  7. The model's head looks to be pointy with her lips and chin, but overall is good. The proportions are good, except the legs are little too big and a little off to the right in angle. The entire painting is excellent, and the texture looks very organic; which adds more to painting. You did a really good job in painting her tones which really makes her body feel and look 3-dimensional.

  8. This painting is so different from the way that you usually draw/paint, which is one of the reasons why I think it is so successful. The stylistic quality you have in drawing/painting live figures differs drastically from your usual photorealistic approach. Besides the left breast being too high and the proportions of the face being slightly off, I think that this piece is quite an accomplishment! Great job!

  9. Very successful tonal variation beautiful highlights and shadows throughout the body. Hair is also rendered successfully. Because your volume and curvature is so expressive it brings attention to the minor issues with proportion.

  10. I really like the yellow on the figures legs and would love to have seen that bold contrast of color throughout the rest of the figure, also a few proportions are a little off mostly in the face with the mouth.

  11. Ok, so the head is a little over-sized, the overall texture of the painting, the shadow-blocking and the highlights on the legs, and the kind of comical rendering is fantastic. And the way the limbs are exaggeratedly round makes this kind of like a cartoon figure. It is well done, to say the least.

  12. I love all the cool colors in your piece. I do feel that compositionally the figure is a little smashed into the frame.I would have liked to see a few more wam highlights in the skin but your shadows are beautiful . Great job!!

  13. Awesome proportions and sense of mass. Beautiful blending. Reminds me of a 1920's Picasso.

  14. I was very pleased to walk by and see this Picasso taking form. The roundness and the soft blending of tones is quite impressive. However, the facial features and, particularly, the strands of hair, ought to have their sharpness of focus knocked down a few degrees.
