LONG-POSE FIGURE STUDY

13 comments:

  1. Skillfully rendered detail- shadows and highlights in the furniture are particularly successful- giving the appearance of depth and dimension

Paint strokes effectively balance out the composition- going down (bottom left) and up (top right)

Figure has very nice proportions and weight

Colors are extremely close to the colors we viewed from life

    Beautiful piece

  2. The wall looks awesome; it has nice depth. I like the dragged look. The only thing I might add would be some of the gold into the back wall to show a slight shadowy appearance. The composition is very nice; it reminds me of pictures in vintage magazines.

  3. Nicely rendered. There are slight issues with the perspective of the couch compared to the figure supposedly sitting on it. The background is nice. The arms look flat because of color choices in the shadows.

    Beautiful figure and well done.

  4. Nice composition and very nice rendering of figure. I like your loose marks that define the background and tie in to the figure and foreground. Your interpretation of color is very realistic. Proportion of legs is a little off.

  5. I sat behind you during this pose and had the pleasure in watching this painting transform into such a beautiful piece! Lovely color and choice of brush strokes/texture. I really love that you incorporated an inanimate object (the couch) into the background so skillfully, Great job!

  6. Your background is successful and fits well with the way you approached painting the model. I would say to have the shadows on her backside be slightly warmer as her flesh is sitting against the red pillow. The shadow on the buttocks should be cooler as well. Everything else looks fine!

  7. I really enjoy this piece! I like the background how she melted the couch and wall, it really gives it depth. The proportions are nice as well! great job!

  8. The painting looks incredible, especially with the background. Furthermore, I like how the background looks like running water falling down over a wall. The shading looks correct with the model. Great job!

  9. Pretty much a fantastic piece. I was fortunate enough to watch it come to life throughout the process, and I have to say the figure herself is extremely successful. From a distance her highlights are brilliant and realistic. Close up the integrity is maintained throughout the form, except at the upper rear forward arm where it looks like two shadows collide unrealistically.

  10. You have a vibrant color pallet that works very well and the background is very successful in this piece. Great job on the fabrics as well!

  11. this one is in my favorite 3 pieces. it's the vertical lines dripping on the canvas next to the neatly rendered figure on the neatly rendered couch with equally beautiful pillows and the dabs of shadow and dabs of color for contrast and highlights and the proportional figure that work so well.

  12. Awesome couch. The thighs are a little too long and hands could be very slightly larger. More use of darkest darks would add strength to it. Beautiful pillows.

  13. A nice realistic study. As said before, though, for the sake of dimensionality and overall effect, the corner of the wall should either be moved eastward (since the dark green does work well against the legs presently) or it should be removed so that the eye is allowed to continue to move diagonally with the couch.
