Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
I thought your interpretation of Riton’s figure was really successful. I’m glad that you added some humor by drawing your roommate in the same position, awesome! Could add more darks to make the figure stand out as you did in the first piece.
Great use of lines in the form of hatching to depict values. The composition of both the applied study and master copy are very close to the artist’s style. An accurate study in which I think you learned a lot about composing the image for the most part. With darker values (mainly on the bottom side of the girl’s legs) I think would have helped ‘sculpt’ the form of her body and would help it be read better from afar.
Your master copy is rendered very well. Your master study is very much in the same style as Ryden and looks very similar. I really like how you did the eyes.
I enjoyed the work of the chosen artist because of the cartoonish nature of the drawings. Sage did a good job drawing a likeness of the original work. In his drawing the style is very similar to Mitchell’s, but the shadowing did not provide the depth needed. Sage could work on range and value to make the likeness stronger.
The master copy is good, and the style of the body is in flow with Mark's artwork. The study needs more work, a dark background, and some more definition. Overall, this was a good presentation that you were able to capture the type of human figure Mark creates with his art.
Very successful style match in pose and composition. I also really liked that you portrayed a male body instead of a female's in your Master Study, mainly because we hadn't drawn a male figure in class at all and you attempted that! Great job!
"Nymphet" The copying of the caricaturish style is fairly accurate. However, whatever deeper meaning the work might have had is rather lost when simply transplanted (pose and all) to the male model in the original piece.
I feel as though the eyes could have had a bit more detail in your mater study. I would have liked to see the bubbles since it is such a big part of the Master study. In the second drawing in the style of your artist i would have liked to see a few more values and attention to the background. Otherwise great job.
Master
ReplyDeleteLooks very similar to the original
Could use some shadows on the underside of the body and around the eyes
Figure
Extremely successful style match
Similar yet altered body positions cleverly make the two works appear as a series and not like exact replicas

ReplyDeleteNice concept for your study, it’s kind of comical. I would like to see blending and the softness that your master uses, in your pieces.
