LONG-POSE FIGURE STUDY

  1. The use of the paper for cropping was very effective when there was no other option. I like where you chose to crop it, it made the composition more appealing to me. I would like to have seen fewer darks in the furniture and highlights incorporated. Body weight and proportions are nice.

  2. Color and variation of tone in the figure are very realistic

The small figure reads as being isolated or lonely, and the foggy background seems to symbolize confusion or uncertainty

The lack of saturated color amplifies the emotional quality of this piece

I like where you chose to crop the composition-it directed more of my attention toward the empty space

  3. At first I thought the composition wasn't very strong. However, it works really well with the idea of her being isolated, alone, and small in the painting. The figure has great proportions and is well rendered. Her legs look a little dark though.

    Great piece.

  4. Nice composition and beautiful detail in this piece. I like your use of negative space to convey emotion (uneasiness, vulnerability etc.) Shadow under the nose is a bit strong, and distracting from a distance since it hides the shape of the lower part of the face.

  5. This piece is really effective, especially the correlation between the figure and the background. I think that the scale of the figure is great, any smaller and you might lose some important detail. The vastness of the background is also effective with the whites and light blues, really gives the piece a somber feel, which is what you were trying to achieve! Nice work!

  6. I really enjoyed this piece, especially with your treatment with the acrylic being similar to a watercolor approach. The build-up of the paint is really nice and in the end resulted in a well-formed figure in space. There is definitely a feeling of isolation which if I remember correctly, was your intention? The setting reminds me of some sort of misty/foggy shore which adds a bit of eeriness as well. I remember you wanted to expand the canvas so that there is more negative space above her making her feel smaller but I think it works fine just the way it is right now.

  7. I usually dont like lots of empty space BUT in this piece it works very well and sets a mood (very effective!) Great pallet choose and seems to have a great deal of thought but into it all around. Great job.

  8. I dig the wintery/wave blowing in the background, makes the whole piece very thematic piece. Also, having the couch as a soft blue really puts the painting into a mood for the figure. Marvelous work!

  9. this was just well done. I don't know what else can be said about it. The composition itself I might have made it all bigger but that would have changed it. The bright white behind the couch works even better in the online photo because it looks like this was a photoshoot and that is the light reflecting from the lights on the set. The color of the couch is also great. Just awesome.

  10. I love the isolation of the figure, in stark contrast of dark couch on white backdrop. Good rendering of the curvature in the body as well, nice dark shadows. Personally i dont have any challenges with the composition. It reads of apprehension, isolation, and vulnerability, a white background with no context, a nude figure exposed to the worlk, sitting upright, alert.

  11. The space around the figure draws the viewer's eyes to the center but I would like to see the figure a slightly larger but still with all the space around it.

  12. Your figure is nice proportionately and the color pallet is very effective. I do not think that the figure should not be smaller I think it may become lost in the composition. I actually like the placement on the page is nice and gives a mood to the piece.

  13. I like how the previous painting shows through - looks very dramatic. You showed some real vision with this piece. My favorite piece overall.
