  1. I really like that you did a separate piece for a close up of the head. The face is very realistic. I like the use of the brush strokes around the body in the background but there seems to be on splatter across the leg and it looks to be unintentional. Overall, I like how you rendered the figure.

  2. Beautifully proportioned figure and face- although I think her lower lip is a tad large in the second piece

    The fragmentary appearance of your first composition is very appealing - It seems to represent the technique or process used to compose the rest of the painting

    Your work is phenomenal and extremely accurate- I'm sure you are going to do great things with your art :)

  3. I love your style of rendering the figures and it reminds me of your soft graphite drawings during class. You wanted more saturated colors and I think you can push them further. I enjoy the background and the composition. The figure looks just like her and your proportions are great.

  4. I like your loose brush strokes, very simple but effectively defines light and shadow. The reflective shadow gives it a fleshy more realistic presence. I like the “dispersed” marks leading away from the figure, but would have liked if they were more exaggerated. Very accurate proportions and overall nice job.

  6. Beautiful work in both shading and composition on both paintings, especially the second painting. I think the biggest thing that I like about your paintings are your flesh colors, which look the closest to being real. You did a great job with composition, proportions, and shadow values; damn good job.

  7. Yea, I agree with John on this one. The use of the flesh tones and the placement of the shadows on the face are so successful. I think in the bottom picture, the darkest shadow really works. That lightest highlight on her left leg is really beautiful as is the red for the left arm and lighter orange-yellow for the chest behind the arm. This is my favorite piece.

  8. You are so amazing at rendering figures, I was pleasantly surprised that you also did a great portrait as well! The dispersed marks around the figure in your first piece could be considered distracting but I think they were essential to begin to define you own stylistic choices and tendencies. The color variations in the skin are also beautifully done.

  9. Bold move going through two paintings. I dont feel like they work as a set even though they are in the same palate. Full figure piece feels very erratic and almost impatiently violent with the explosion of color. As with anything in a free range class like this, you could always push the concept further. Face looks good, nice tonal variation and representation of the real object. Lips are a little thick making them look askew. Very nice work overall.

  13. A great painterly study, showing how accurate and beautiful oils can be. The paints were mixed quite well, so that single strokes do the job of what, for others, took dozens and dozens. Still, I strongly desired to see a few tiny detail marks or fine contour lines--the lack being very surprising given your usual drawing style.
