LONG-POSE FIGURE STUDY

  1. I like the use of orange in this piece. The face is very nice. I would have liked to see more highlights in the feet. I really love the darker couch and lighter background. This is a very nice composition.

  2. Most successful face

Great proportions and weight- The top half of the body however seems to be a tad smother than the legs

Complimentary colors in figure work very well together

The position and saturation of the yellow couch alongside your other color choices also works particularly well in this piece- adding a pop of color without calling too much attention away from the figure

  3. Great piece. I especially love the colors and highlights and shadows. The proportions look pretty good and the color choices are great. Maybe the bright yellow is too strong and distracting though.

Overall I think this is a great piece with a great composition.

  4. Good use of highlights, would have liked to see more mid-tones in shadow areas. Colors in the couch are a little bright and take focus away from the figure. Very nice weight to the figure, and good proportions. Brilliant face, and an overall great piece.

  5. This is perhaps one of the more accurate representations of the model in class—especially in depicting her face! The capturing in likeness is successful and I commend you for that. Your stylization of blocky limbs is quite interesting and I think your worries of having it to be more stylized shouldn’t have to get in the way of this. The overall image is fine the way it is and I think if I were to change something it would to be matching the value of the shadow on her left (not the viewer’s right) leg with the value of the shadow on her right leg. I also think you captured the artificial lighting successfully as you can tell by the saturation of the flesh tones. Good work!

  6. Great deal of improvement in his work through out the class. Love all the yellow and orange shading in the flesh. Good job.

  7. Your dark tones are too bright, and the left shoulder is a bit too far out. The coloring on the pillow with the rings is somewhat distracting, but overall the you did a great job. Your painting looks good, and the light to midtones look exquisite. Also, I love the models hair that you painted in, it looks incredibly realistic in depth.

  8. You are very strong at figure drawing and it is great to see that same skill carry over into painting and working with color. Her left leg is a bit off but the overall composition is successful, especially pertaining to the use of complimentary colors!

  9. Nice solid stark colors throughout the piece. So much so that the white across the top feel a little unfinished. I feel like the feet are too monotone, and saturated in orange with no true highlights. While I also stared at them for four days and totally understand that they were a different tone compared to the legs, I still think ja suggestive hint of that bright highlight would help bring all the body parts together.

  10. I enjoy the use of complimentary colors and you have created great volume and mass to the face and feet, the background is kind of flat and I would like to either see it completely flat or add depth to the space she is in.

  11. The only thing that bothers me about this piece is the blue on both legs that looks too concentrated in color and isn't consistent with the soft hues and colors of the other parts of the body, especially in the stomach. The rest of this painting is simply gorgeously done. The face is a little intense, but looks aside, well done.

  12. I love the use of complimentary colors in the figure. The face is fantastic it has personality and emotion which is very effective. Great job.

  13. The scale of this very much works in its favour. The framing is authoritative. Some of the emphasized details are quite striking (orange ring*). This is one piece where I did prefer it at certain stages before completion, however.
